What is a CSA and why join one?

Community Supported Agriculture is the concept of people supporting a local farm with a direct investment, and sharing in the return of the harvest. Their relationship with the farm, the fresh seasonal food that comes in the boxes every week, and sharing in the risks that make for a bountiful or poor harvest all connect them to the place where they live. Meanwhile, the farm family has resources and a secure market throughout the year.  The income generated for Grasshoppers CSA will be used to pursue the new frontiers of local food opportunity, such as hospitals, schools, and other institutions. Their farmer-owned business is dedicated to building a local food economy on all levels, and you are being invited to join!

What kind of food is available?

Grasshoppers has improvised on this model, to offer a multi-farm, all-natural and organically grown program that provides beef, chicken, pork, milk, cheese, and eggs as well as produce.

How does it work?

In a CSA, participants select the amount and type of food they would like to receive weekly or biweekly.  The Spring / Summer CSA year is from May to November.  Payment can be made in full or monthly.   Participants then pick up their box of food at a designated time and place.  Visit the Grasshoppers website at http://www.grasshoppersdistribution.com/csa.html  to check out the variety of food available and reasonable prices.

What about the south end?

People in many parts of Louisville are enjoying fresh seasonal food and supporting local farmers by participating in a CSA.  Presently, there is not a pick up on the South End of Louisville but a group of folks are interested in making that happen.
